boom advisory: $25k found

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014 reports $25k/year is needed to pay for a new red boat.

In 2012, less than a year after increasing slip rates by $3/foot for all slip renters, Feller-Felien-Fern effectively reversed its vote, and lowered the commercial fishing fleet rate to $8/foot. The harbor coordinator, Mr. Quan, reported at the time it would amount to a $25k/year revenue loss “reduction.”

Since Mr. Quan’s report wasn’t entirely consistent with his oral presentation to the Council, as outlined in this 2012 post, it might be a good time to take a second look.

adieu o’side

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

Great hopes are held by the Southern California boatman in view of the possibilities of some new harbors being developed between Newport-Balboa and San Diego areas. The Small Craft Harbors Commission, a branch of the Department of Natural Resources of the State of California, presented proposals for harbors in Carlsbad’s Agua Hedionda Lagoon, Cardiff’s San Elijo Lagoon, and Tia Juana river basin at Imperial Beach.

A loan of $10,000 was requested by Max McComas, Oceanside city councilman, to be used in the planning of a proposed three million dollar small craft harbor north of the San Luis Rey River.

Plans call for 150 permanent slips and anchorage for 300 boats, expanding options for the sneakaboard set. Three nights Oceanside Harbor, three in La Jolla Harbor, seventh night Oceanside’s free campground on North Harbor Drive and adjacent parking camping lots. Sweet.

(a) No person shall use any paddleboard, pedalo, surf sailer, waterskis, aquaplane, boogie board, wind surfer, surfboard or similar type of watercraft in the harbor, including the entrance or main channel of the harbor.

We just kid you, folks! Rules are for the other people. We’ve had a Turkish bath right on the dock for years. And then there’s this:
